Odd Man Out (1947)

Odd Man Out is a real solid Irish film noir set in a unnamed town (Belfast) who's lead character (James Mason) is an escaped convict and sector head of an unnamed criminal organization (The IRA). Mason is fantastic as a wounded man on the run and director Carol Reed (The Third Man) uses some nice visual tricks (for 1947) and religious imagrey to convey Mason's slipping grip on reality. It's a little too long and the pacing drags at times but the supporting characters are strong and Reed's visula style holds up really well today. Well worth checking out for fans of the genre.
